Zeus (; in Greek: nominative: Zeús, genitive: Diós) in Greek mythology is the king of the gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus and the god of the sky and thunder. His symbols are the thunderbolt, eagle, bull and oak. In addition to his Indo-European inheritance, the classical "cloud-gatherer" also derives certain iconographic traits from the cultures of the ancient Near East, such as the scepter. Zeus is frequently depicted by Greek artists in one of two poses: standing, striding forward, with a thunderbolt leveled in his raised right hand or seated in majesty.
Campus Crusade for Zeus is an North American religious organization similar in nature to Campus Crusade for Christ, differing primarily in its theological base. Whereas the latter drives is message of Christianity towards college students of all ages, the former seeks a revitalization (and, ultimately, resurrection) of the ancient Greek Deity, Zeus.
Religious beliefs Campus Crusade for Zeus seeks to once again draw cultural attention to the rich religious history of the Ancient Greeks. The head of a dynastic and far-reaching pantheon of gods, Zeus is most directly characterized by strength of mind and character, yet appropriately used "frowned upon" acts such as guile and treachery, yet only in the cause of discovering guile and treachery in his followers or worshipers. Thus, such acts are appropriate when used appropriately in the eyes of Zeus.
Additionally, Zeus was a bastion of fertility, as evidenced by his many lovers and children of all races, species, and sexes. Therefore, the Campus Crusade for Zeus preaches a gospel of free sexuality, not entirely different from the social apparatus in place today in many colleges. This is considered to be one of the most attractive aspects of pursuing the ministry of Zeus.
