Campaign Against Levels Motorway

Campaign Against Levels Motorway (CALM) is an alliance of organisations and individuals opposed to the construction of the proposed New M4 motorway in south east Wales.

The CALM alliance believes that the New M4 motorway would:

- cause irreversible ecological and environmental damage to the Gwent Levels;

- cost hundreds of millions of pounds;

- increase traffic levels and pollution in south Wales;

- contribute to climate change; and,

- increase our reliance on motor transport at a time when we should be responding to the twin threats from peak oil and climate change.

Role of CALM
Research and Information
CALM commissions research and maintains a library of documents covering areas such as:

- alternatives to the New M4 motorway;

- climate change;

- peak oil;

- fuel price;

- applicable laws and regulations; and,

- costs/benefits information.

Raising Public Awareness
CALM seeks to raise public awareness of the issues arising from the proposed New M4 motorway by:

- having a presence at local events;

- presenting talks to local clubs and societies; and,

- ensuring that its supporters are kept informed of CALM activities.

Lobbying
CALM encourages its supporters to make their feelings known to their elected representatives.
