Cambridge University European Union Society (CUEUS) exists to promote cultural exchange and political debate amongst students of Cambridge University who hope to have their ideas and preconceptions about the European Union challenged. CUEUS strives to achieve this by providing lively speaker and social events amongst it’s own members, those of related departments such as the Cambridge University Law Faculty, Social and Political Sciences, International Studies and MML, and also the National and Language Societies. CUEUS exists to act as an intermediary for what the European Union is, and what we want it to become. It is complemented by the National Societies, for our unity is not synonymous for homogeneity. Committee The Committee runs the Society on behalf of its members and is accountable to the members and the Proctors. For the academic year 2008-09, the committee was elected by Society members during Michaelmas Term 2008. The current President is Rachel Rowbottom of Christ's College, Cambridge. The Society was founded in 1999 by Jaime Royo Olid. It’s first Honorary President was Professor Allot, who roused hope in Cambridge and reminded CUEUS of it’s responsibility and potential to ‘get it right’, as the European Union has the potential to do so throughout the rest of the world. Upcoming Events Upcoming events for Lent term include a joint panel discussion with the Chinese Students and Scholars Association and the 9th annual Cambridge Model European Council, which sees 150 delegates descend on St John’s College, Cambridge to debate and learn about Europe and its institutions.
