C. J. Cherre

C.J. Cherre (1952) has been an executive with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team since 1977. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was raised in St. Louis and earned a Bachelors Degree (Cum Laude) from St. Louis University in 1974.

He joined the Cardinals' group sales department in 1977 and became the assistant director of public relations in 1979. He was appointed traveling secretary in January of 1981 and also serves as unofficial translator for Mike Shannon.

Cherre is an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoys music (country and contemporary) and fine dining. He married Jill Sheehe of Jupiter, FL on Nov. 7, 2002 and his daughter Laura (21) is a junior at Xavier University.

Cherre's career highlights include receiving the "Good Guy" award from the St. Louis chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America in 1998, the same year he was honored by his peers as Traveling Secretary of the Year. On March 11, 2003, he polished off a 48-ounce steak at Don Shula's in Palm Beach Gardens, an accomplishment noted in the restaurant.

With the Cardinals winning the World Series in 2006, Cherre plans to wear one championship ring on each hand.
