Byrta

Byrta stylized as BYRTA is a Faroese musical electro-pop duo made up of singer/songwriter Guðrið Hansdóttir and musician Janus Rasmussen. They are mostly inspired by 1980s pop music.
Hansdóttir was already a well-established solo singer well known in Iceland while musician Janus Rasmussen had for some years now been a member of the Icelandic/Faroese electro band Bloodgroup.
In 2012 they met in Reykjavík, and they found out that they had something in common, they started to play music together. Guðrið Hansdóttir had written some songs in Faroese, while writing most of her songs in English. She and Janus worked with these Faroese language songs for some months and planned to make a new album with Rasmussen arranging and playing all the instruments and producing the album of songs all written and composed by Hansdóttir. The album self-titled BYRTA was released in May 2013 on Tutl, a Faroe Islands record label. In summer of 2013, Byrta appeared at the on the Faroe Islands earning "Best Upcoming Band" award at the festival. BYRTA works closely with faroese aritst Heiðrik á Heygum for their album covers, pictures, live shows and music videos. The band is touring Iceland, Faroe Islands with additional dates in Germany and Denmark.
