In the United Kingdom an estimated one million tonnes of waste electrical equipment is discarded by householders and commercial groups every year. The main component of which is household appliances known as white goods, which make up 43% of the total. Many of these electrical items that we throw away can be easily repaired . The current economic difficulties in the UK, often referred to as the credit crunch, have seen a significant increase in the number of people conducting do-it-yourself repairs, with 75% now making the effort to increase the lifespan of everyday appliances and gadgets.
History
The BuySpares brand was launched in 2005 and initially specialised in retailing spare parts and consumables for domestic appliances such as washing machines, ovens, dishwashers, tumble dryers, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners and freezers.
However, high levels of consumer demand and rapid growth lead to the expansion of the product range the following year, to include accessories for household electricals. BuySpares is currently the largest UK retailer of spares, consumables and accessories for both brown and white goods.

The BuySpares website was launched in May 2005 and has a diverse range of spares, consumables and accessories available to order, covering the full spectrum of home and garden appliances. It provides access to in excess of 1.5 million lines from over 100 well known manufacturers including Sony, Hotpoint, Dyson, Electrolux, Flymo, Samsung, the Hoover Company, Whirlpool and Zanussi.
The website assists do-it-yourself repairs by enabling people to easily locate the correct part for their broken appliance via a comprehensive model number search. As six in 10 people now attempt to repair broken appliances instead of replacing them , the site also includes helpful hints and tips for identifying and fitting parts.
Distribution
BuySpares operate a fully automated distribution centre to process orders and maintain stock levels. There is also a 400 seat call centre for managing telephone orders and providing customer support.
