Brutal jazz

A sub-genre or style of jazz. Brutal jazz is a relatively new style of jazz. The band Two Steps Forward claims having created this style in spring of 2008 with their self entitled album "Two Steps Forward." Brutal Jazz in characterized by it fast tempo(around 200-280bpm), frequent style changes during a song(from swing to straight), frequent tempo changes during a song, harsh melodies, and epically improvised solos. Brutal jazz also uses a different rhythmic section set-up then other jazz styles. In stead of a piano and stand-up bass, an eclectic guitar and electric bass guitar are used. This differs from fusion jazz though as they are the only eclectic interments all other interments are acoustic. The melodies and chord structures mimic that of traditional jazz, but the rhythms and tempos used are of popular and more modern music, such as metal.
