Brooklet Peanut Festival

The Brooklet Peanut Festival is an annual festival that occurs on the third Saturday of August. It is located in Brooklet, Georgia. Brooklet is approximately 6 miles east of Statesboro, Georgia. The first festival was held in 1990. It drew about 2,000 people and helped finance a town park lined with benches around a gazebo and fountain. The park was dedicated to the Town of Brooklet at the 6th Annual Peanut Festival in 1995. The Brooklet Peanut Festival consists of an annual parade, a beauty pageant, a Peanut Run, booths, entertainment, and a tractor race. So far, there has been nineteen peanut festivals. Each year, the festival has grown in population.
Parade
The Brooklet Peanut Festival parade starts at 10 am. It is approximately 2 miles long. It consists of the Southeast Bulloch High School Band, football team, cheerleaders, JROTC, and dancers, local dance studios, pageant winners, clowns, tractors, motorcycles, Kiwanis Club, red hat ladies, civil war reenactments, hot rods, Mr. Peanut, Shriners Club , school organizations such FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), FFA (The National FFA Organization), Key Club , Beta Club , FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) and many more. There are also many family owned businesses that participate in the annual parade.
Beauty Pageant
The Brooklet Peanut Festival hosts an annual beauty pageant. It consists of many different age groups including: 0-6 months, 7-18 months, 9-35 months, 3-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years, 16 years and over . The contestant who wins in the 16 and over category is crowned as 'Miss Peanut Queen'. The pageant is normally hosted at Brooklet Elementary School, Brooklet, Georgia.
Peanut Run
The Brooklet Peanut Run is a 5K race that occurs around 7 am on the day of the Peanut Festival. The race begins and ends at Brooklet Elementary School. There are approximately 300 participants in the race each year.
Booths
The peanut festival also has many booths set up throughout the courtyard. They typically include homemade arts and crafts such as purses, jewelry, clothes, and household items. There is also food, amusements, and peanuts.
Entertainment
The Brooklet Peanut Festival also has live, free entertainment. Performances include performances by Southern Dance Academy , Southeast Bulloch High School band, and many local bands. There is also a karaoke session for those who wish to participate.
Slow Tractor Race
The slow tractor race is an annual race where tractors race as slowly as possible. The last tractor to cross the finish line is the winner. There is also a Kiddie Pedal Tractor race. This race is held at Noon. The Kiddie Pedal Tractor Race is designed for children who race a pint-sized tractor.
