The British Taekwondo Council was formed on April 21, 1988. It acts as an administrative body for non-Olympic Taekwondo organisations in the UK. Olympic or World Taekwondo Federation taekwondo is governed by a separate organisation, the British Taekwondo Control Board (BTCB). The BTC currently has 14 different organisations as members, and 44,000 members total. While the BTCB is not actually a member of the BTC, the BTC and the BTCB signed a memorandum of agreement that gives the BTC control over ITF and independent taekwondo organisations, while the BTCB has sole authority over WTF taekwondo. The TAGB is currently the largest member of the BTC.
