Brian Gallant

Brian Gallant, from Shediac Bridge, New Brunswick, was a Liberal candidate in the 2006 New Brunswick General Election.

At the beginning of the campaign, few gave him a chance as he was 24 years old, still a student, and not to mention, running in Bernard Lord, the Premier-of-the-time's own riding. However, the bilingual law student turned many heads and received a great deal of both provincial and national media attention as he convinced 41% of the voters of Moncton-East to put their trust in him.

Gallant has a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance as well as a bachelor's degree in common law from the Université de Moncton. During Gallant's last two years of law school, he was elected president of the Université de Moncton student union (FEECUM) and served for two terms. He was also president of the Student-Radio Station CKUM, the student representative on the UdeM Board of Governors, the student representative on the UdeM Executif Council, member of the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC), and Vice-President of the New Brunswick Student Alliance. He also represented the UdeM in two national moot court competitions (Gale and Sopinka).

Gallant, who played two seasons with the Université de Moncton's Men's Volleyball Team, is also a former New Brunswick Provincial Tennis Champion.

Gallant was Head-Coach of the Louis-J.-Robichaud high-school boys volleyball team from 2000-2004. He led the team to their first provincial title in 2004. He was also Head-Coach of the New Brunswick Canada Games Tennis Team in 2005.

In 2007, the Times and Transcript Newspaper placed Gallant on their list of people who will play a big role in shaping the future of the City of Moncton, New Brunswick.

Gallant is currently an associate at the Stewart McKelvey Law Firm.
