Brendon Matusch is a Canadian young scientist who won First Prize at the 30th EUCYS in 2018. Biography Brendon was born in Sudbury, Ontario. He attends Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School where he developed a self driving go-cart using neural networks. With this project, called "Development of a Level 2 Autonomous Vehicle Using Convolutional Neural Networks and Reinforcement Learning", he entered into the Canada-Wide Science Fair Ottawa 2018. At CWSF, he won Best Project Brendon used his knowledge of neural networks to contribute to the PICO experiment at SNOLAB, where he developed a system to predict the type of particle that initiated an event in a bubble chamber. The innovation Matusch developed a system for locating road lines using convolutional neural networks. Additionally, he applied reinforcement learning to the task of steering, which allowed his vehicle to learn as it drives.
