Bournemouth university boat club

Bournemouth University Boat Club (BUBC) is the rowing club of Bournemouth University, based in the UK on the River Stour. The club currently has around 50 members, equally split between Men and Women.

Bournemouth University was formed in 1993 by Kevin Ayles who remained as Head Coach until 2007 and is now running Neaves Rowing based in Swanage. The club comes under the University's Student Union as opposed to the sports department, although there is the possibility that this may change in the future.

Membership

The membership of the club is extremely mixed with some students arriving who already have rowing experience and others starting as complete novices. By being split up into four squads - Men's + Women's Senior and Novice squads. Both of the club's Senior Squads have a dedicated coach, whereas the Novice Squads are run by Senior members of the club, with the support of the Senior coaches and Head Coach.

Boat House

The club is fortunate to be able to share the Boathouse of Canford School boat club in Wimborne. Situated on the River Stour, the club has around 1500m water, with several bends.

Within the boathouse, BUBC stores its fleet of four 8's and one 4+.

Races

The club attends many events throughout the country. Head races include the University of Bristol Boat Club Head, Thames Valley Trial Head, Wycliffe Big Head and both the Women's Eights Head and The Head of the River Race on the Tideway in London.

In the summer, the club races at regattas including Nottingham City, Poplar, Metropolitan (at Dorney Lake), Reading amateur, Henley Women's and Henley Royal.

In the past, the club has also raced at the National Rowing Championships.

B.U.C.S.

The club is a regular attendee at BUCS (formerly BUSA) regatta which takes place during the bank holiday weekend at Holme Pierrepont. In 2009, the BUCS Head is to be held over two days in Nottingham and the club plans to attend.

Training Camp

The club has an annual training camp traditionally held in the Easter vacation, this camp is usually held at Peterborough City Rowing Club although options are being looked at for a continental camp for future years.

Socials

As well as training hard on and off the water, the club has a very strong social focus and the members meet regularly for various social events. Socials often take place after races and include the Annual Dinner the week after BUCS regatta.

Club kit & blades

The clubs blades are navy blue and white with a maroon stripe and the kit is made up of the same colours.
