Mutantspace arts and skills exchange was formed in 2008 in Cork City in order to provide free support and resources to people who wanted to produce their own arts projects and events. Mutant space was envisioned as an alternative creative economic system, a DIY culture initiative. An initiative that supports people who want to produce work but don’t have the resources to do it. The skills exchange is run on a voluntary basis and operates as an arts cooperative working by the gift economy principle. To join members register their time and skills into the resource bank. These skills and materials are then available to the entire membership for the use in their own projects and events. In 2009 mutantspace produced a number of events in Cork City, Ireland including; gigs, walking tours, feasts, club nights, performance poetry events, cabaret nights and short film competitions. This event led to the creation of the bi - annual festival, The Trash Culture Revue. The resource takes does not differentiate between the artist and non-artist, professional or amateur. It currently has over 1,000 members and hosts a skills bank, festival and culture blog.
