Born in the Streets

BORN IN THE STREETS
Born in the Streets is a three piece Indie Rock band from Drogheda in the Republic of Ireland. The bands members are Brian Byrne (rythm guitar, lead vocals), Brian Fitzpatrick (drums) and Graeme Corr (lead guitar). Their influences include Interpol, Guns and Roses, Aslan and The Stone Roses.
Formation
The band formed in 2004 after all three members had been practicing in the garage of Corr's house in College Rise in Drogheda. They only ever intended the band to be a past time but after many of their friends had over heard their practice session, they were encouraged to take to the stage in their hometown. The bands first gig took place at McHugh's Bar in Drogheda where they attracted a crowd of about 200 people. The gig was poorly advertised, but word spread of the bands talents throughout the town which resulted in a far greater crowd than was originally anticipated. The gig mainly consisted of cover versions of their favourite songs but did include two tracks written by the bands. After the gig, the management of McHugh's Bar quickly invited the band back to perform in a months time and encouraged the band to pen some more of their own material.
Their second gig was performed infront of a 750 strong crowd after rave reviews from their first gig. The set was played of songs penned entirely for the band and was witnessed by Josh Fielding, a talent scout of Tower Records.
Record Deal
The band were invited to record a demo version of all of their songs by Fielding, which he intended to submit to his bosses at Tower Records in order to secure a deal for the band. His submission was successful and the band were offered a deal to have their first album recorded on a trial basis. Fielding was appointed as the bands manager immediately after the contract was signed. Following its release, their first album entitled Where We Are broke into the top 40 of the Irish Album Charts. The band soon began tours of the North East area of the country where their fan base was based.
