Border Men is a play by Jack Westerman. It premiered at the King's Head Theatre in London in May 2017. Set on a rural stretch of the Inner German Border, it tells the story of an elderly guard who is interrupted while attempting to defect to the West. Overview In Winter, 1963, East German border guard Dieter Hertwig intends to defect to the west. He has arranged for his daughter to meet him on the Western side, and constructed makeshift crampons in order to climb the heavily-fortified border fence. When a second patrol arrives unexpected early, Hertwig must conceal his plans, else risk being revealed to the authorities. Production Border Men was first staged at the King's Head Theatre in May 2017. The original cast included Chris Barritt as Hertwig, Jonathan Cobb as Hubert, Connor Mills as Schäfer and Andy McLeod as Metz.
