Bonnington Truce

Bonnington Truce is an American rock band. Formed in 1979 in the small college town of Hattiesburg "Tha Gulch" Mississippi, Bonnington Truce became the regional voice of rebellion. The group was one of the first original alternative music groups in Mississippi. The band, with three lead vocalists, had begun as a decidedly folkie affair, focusing on three part harmonies, and playing mainly covers of C.S.N.Y. but more importantly, original tunes from founding member Patrick Wallace's immense song book. Things really began to change when the band began to play in the local bars. The shift to louder, more aggressive playing, and "'shit stompin'" the stage, led to rowdier, more committed fans, ready for a Mississippi version of what had been happening in London, L.A., and N.Y.C. The band began to play a mixture of punk, new wave, and garage-rock originals, and dubbed themselves "A Southern Pock Combo". Covering forgotten and obscure material of the 60's through the early 80's, this wild, eclectic, and unpredictable act seemingly had a requirement not to play anything that was popular at the time, leading to a bizarre popularity throughout Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.
Wrought with internal conflicts, ranging from the revolving door of drummers, to fights over musical direction, and even marital fidelity, the band broke up and came back together no less than three times, the last "Classic" lineup of the band being the pop-punk "Southern Pock" version. Early Years:
The original lineup included drummer Tony Mize, bassist Jeff "Geoffrey" Bridges, guitarist/vocalist Patrick Wallace, guitarist/vocalist "Vinegar" Ben Young, and vocalist/synth-banger Earl Lundy. The band "ate" drummers, so additional lineup changes included drummers Dan Young (Ben's brother), Joey "Mister Angry" Goodsell, Jeff "The Kid" Rodgers, & Hugh O'Neal, as well as guitarist Jeff "The Electric Hose" Everett. Rehearsals were originally conducted in a spare bedroom at Earl Lundy's house and were later moved to The Barn, a recording studio and sound and lighting company owned by audio engineer Lloyd Goad. Lloyd supplied the rehearsal space and eventually began running lights and sound for Bonnington Truce live gigs. A friendship with artist Dick Ford, a friend of Earl's from the Art Department at The University of Southern Mississippi, led to regular videotaping and photography of the band. Dick enjoyed "playing with the band" : stepping into the fray onstage, getting bounced around, even knocked down, but catching it all on live video streaming to televisions on the stage. Dick's vintage material became invaluable in the making of the 2006 documentary film.
