Body core is a Technical death metal, avant-garde, experimental band that fuses different kinds of music together creating a hybrid of extreme musicstyles.
History Certainly to be counted as the only Death metal band of their hometown, Body Core is a Hässleholm based extreme Metal band formed in 1997 by vocalist Dan Hejman and guitarist Markus Wallén. Their first musical project was made up of chopped pieces of drum loops, guitar and vocals. They soon understood that they needed a drummer. Thru a mutual friend, they found drummer Håkan "Killer" Johansson, who was at the time active in a cover band. The three piece started learning to play punk songs in Håkans parents basement, but soon moved their activities to a real rehearsal space in the local youth-center. After trying to cope with vocal duties and bass playing, Dan gave up the bass playing and handed the duties to Markus Nilsson.
A demo entitled "I kill you in my dreams" was recorded in Hässleholms studio senorita in 2000. The result was less than perfect. Following recording of "I kill you in my dreams" Nilsson was ejected and replaced with Nicklas Wallén, Markus younger brother. Body Core started to veer more towards black/death metal when second guitarist Daniel Larsson joined. From that point on Body Core started playing around with dual guitar harmonies. Daniel recorded the next demo, "Parasite" in 2001. The demo was expanded the following year and retitled "Welcome to our dying world".
When guitarist Daniel Larsson started losing interest in metal the band asked William Ekeberg to replace him. It would be this incarnation of the band that started experimenting with time signatures and more complex song structures. A demo entitled "Idle mind amputation" was recorded, then rerecorded since the sound quality was below the standards created by the band.
Ekeberg quit shortly after the band recorded the self produced full length album "blunt force trauma". He went on to play with bands such as Broken dagger and Trymmheim. His position was filled in August of 2003 by Jakob Löfdahl. The band also contributed tracks to two compilation albums at this time; namely "Så jävla underground vol 3" and "Listen to your inner voice".
On the live front, the group participated in the "Tivolirock" shoulder to shoulder with Hammerfall, , Dark Tranquility and Evildoer. Eventually Löfdahl was fired and former Anti Human Association Guitarist Micke Jonsson stepped into his shoes and the group set to work once more. The sound matured even more, striving into an even more technical era. All sorts of music was tossed into the mix. Death metal, grind, black metal, jazz, funk, reggae, drum n bass, heavy metal, rock music, funk, surf rock, ska, free jazz, hardcore punk, reggae, ambient music, bossa nova, and even video game music and more.
Gigs with Sgt. Carnage, , Arise, Enshrined, Oath to vanquish and Dia Psalma soon followed. A deal with Cutting Edge Records was secured in 2006. The band signed the contract on Markus birthday as a celebration to him, the band and to mark that they had stuck together for 9 years.
