Bobby Schilling

Bobby Schilling is the Republican candidate for Congress in the 2010 election for the 17th congressional district of Illinois. Schilling will face incumbent Democrat Phil Hare in 2010.
Background
Schilling was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois. He attended Alleman High School, followed by Black Hawk College. After college, he worked at Container Corporation of America from 1983-1987, and served as union steward in Local 191 International Paper Workers Union. From 1987-1995, he worked for the largest insurance company in the U.S., Prudential Financial. Finally, in 1997, he opened a pizza shop with his wife, Christie, called Saint Giuseppe's Heavenly Pizza in Moline, Illinois. The restaurant is family owned and operated, and is closed on Sundays in recognition of the Sabbath and to spend time with friends and family.
Schilling has been married to Christie for 23 years, and has nine children ranging from one year old to 22 years old. He also has one granddaughter. He and his family currently live in Colona, Illinois.
2010 candidacy
Schilling announced his intention to run against Hare in May 2009.. Since then, he has traveled throughout the district to generate support.
Asked how he plans to defeat Hare, he replied, "I will outperform him; I will secure the base down south. I will work Rock Island County harder than it’s ever been worked. It will happen."
Political views
Schilling is a fiscal conservative who believes in transparency, lower taxes, and gun rights, among other things. He is also pro-life and supports term limits for members of Congress. He has said that he would have voted against the .
