Bobby McGraw

Bobby McGraw (Born ??) is an Irish entertainer, singer and actor famous for a string of Irish chart hits through the 1970’s. He achieved notoriety in 1979 over the "Nass Incident". He is currently working on a comeback as the voice of insure.ie.

Early life

Little is known of Bobby’s early life. He has often refused to discuss it and when he has, it has seemed fantastical and rather unlikely. He has claimed in interviews that he grew up in Belturbet, yet no locals seem to remember him as a child and the school has no record of him. Other evidence points to Bobby having grown up in a notorious Dublin slum and spending time in an industrial school. Further evidence still suggests that Bobby McGraw is in fact Bobi Grovovic, a small-time crook and conman who arrived in Ireland from the old Soviet Union during the cold war. What is known is that in the late 1960’s with most of the country in the grips of Rock n Roll, Bobby McGraw arrived on the scene and took one final stand for the big band sound.

Career:

For ten years, McGraw wowed crowds all over Ireland with his own heady mix of catchy pop music and tight trousers. He regularly played to sold out hotels and community centres where screaming girls would momentarily forget their strict Catholic upbringing and throw their underwear on stage. This drew fierce condemnation from the church at the time, especially when it emerged that one outraged priest had managed to collect 27 pairs of knickers as evidence at one gig. He also appeared in a
But McGraw seemed unable to deal with the pressures of fame and by late ’77, stories were circulating about his out-of-control behaviour, sexual perversions and substance abuse. Fans report McGraw’s increasingly expletive laden rants during shows, often accompanied by vomiting and crying.

In 1978 after a performance on The Late Late Show, McGraw was mobbed by screaming fans. Looking disheveled and incoherent, he turned an antique rifle on the crowd, hospitalizing two. No charges were brought, but the adverse publicity pushed him ever deeper into his own private hell, and many reckoned he was heading for a fall. That fall came on August 18th 1979, with "The Naas Incident". McGraw was implicated in a shocking scandal that almost brought down a government. His career bombed and years in the wilderness followed. Ireland’s libel laws prevent any details about the case being published, however the slander laws are much more relaxed and most Irish people will happily talk about the case at length, often deviating wildly and gleefully from the truth to add their own embellishments and theories,

Current Status:

In late 2007, an old fan of Bobby’s happened across him drinking cleaning agents in a hotel kitchen(Rumoured to have been Noel Brady's Bar in Cavan, where he continually took refuge during the lower points of his sporadic career) Shocked at how his idol had ended up, the fan promised him a comeback gig if he ditched the domestic cleaner habit and cleaned up his act.

Six months later, after extensive cosmetic surgery in Thailand and thousands in solicitor’s fees, Bobby McGraw has just been signed up to be the face, and voice, of insure.ie an Irish insurance company.

This year sees the return of Big Time Bobby McGraw.
