The Bluehand movement was an online (specifically Twitter based) protest group formed in January 2014 by an anonymous user using the pseudonym James Bond. The purpose of the group was to protest against what they perceived as excessive political correctness and the islamification of the western world. They identified themselves by the use of Avatars featuring the Bluehand logo and tweets using the #Bluehand and #BluehandFamily hashtags. Expansion As the group grew and added members the posts and viewpoints became focused more specifically on their protests against Muslims. This, along with anti-semitic material and threatening messages, led to several high profile members being suspended from Twitter for breaking Terms of Service. Takeover This change to a targeted attack on minority groups attracted the attention of Antifascist organisations, as well as the Anti-Islamophobia charity Tell Mama UK. In July 2016 members of these groups decided to silence the Bluehand group, by hijacking the use of the #Bluehand tag to promote peace, love and equality. Calling themselves NewBluehand this group post messages of support and tolerance. They have been publicly endorsed by Tell Mama UK for the work they do in promoting equality and opposing discrimination.
