Lizard squad

Lizard Squad is a group that first emerged on August 18, 2014. They are known for their use of DDoSing via amplification to take down popular services related to gaming. They identify themselves as "Cyber terrorists labelled as a matter of national security". Lizard Squad believes that "These entities spend exponentially far less on the users gaming experience then they should be." however they also say "And course it's also for the lulz".
Notable actions
League of Legends DDoS
On August 18, 2014 servers of the popular game League of Legends were taken offline with a DDoS attack; this was Lizard Squad's first attack.
PlayStation Network DDoS
On August 24, 2014 the PlayStation Network was taken down using a DDoS attack by Lizard Squad.
On December 8, 2014, the PlayStation Network was again attacked by Lizard Squad; anyone who attempted to access the PlayStation Store during the time it was down were greeted by the message: "Page Not Found! It's not you. It's the internet's fault."
Xbox Live DDoS
On December 1, 2014, Xbox Live was attacked by Lizard Squad, users attempting to connect to use the service would be given the 80151909 error code.
On December 25, 2014 (Christmas Day), Xbox Live was attacked by Lizard Squad, users are unable to connect to Xbox Live service or "Log in" on the servers.
The Machinima Hack
On December 2, 2014, Lizard Squad hacked Machinima.com, replacing the front page with ASCII art of their logo.
North Korea DDoS
On December 22, 2014, Internet in North Korea was taken offline by a DDoS attack, Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for the attack and linked to an IP address located in the North Korea. North Korean Internet services were restored on the 23rd of December 2014.
Christmas attacks
Lizard Squad had previously threatened to take down gaming services on Christmas.
On December 24, 2014 (Christmas Eve), Lizard Squad attacked Xbox Live, however their attacks only affected UK servers and Xbox Live was only down for 8 minutes at which point Finest Squad is believed to have been DDoSing members of Lizard Squad to prevent them being able to attack Xbox Live. At 3:03PM Finest Squad announced that Lizard Squad had been taken offline saying "Finest Squad on your connections. #Offline @LizardMafia". After this, Lizard Squad decided to attack PlayStation Network. PlayStation Network was down for approximately 8 minutes.
On December 25, 2014 (Christmas Day), Lizard Squad once again performed a DDoS attack on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network however, this time they were successful.
Finest Squad
On December 3, 2014, a group named 'Finest Squad' appeared with the sole aim of taking out Lizard Squad. On December 19, 2014 Finest Squad posted what was claimed to be a DOX of all seven members of Lizard Squad, however Lizard Squad claimed that the information in the DOX was in fact either forged or already publicly available. saying "None of us were arrested, @FinestSquad was nothing but a few copy-pastes, you guys are pro-hackers. hehehehehe <3"
Bomb threats
On August 24, 2014, Lizard Squad claimed that plane on which the president of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley was flying (American Airlines Flight 362) had explosives on board. American Airlines reacted to this threat immediately, diverting the plane to Phoenix. This event prompted the FBI to open an investigation into Lizard Squad, saying "at this time the FBI is handling this directly"
