Unite Against Republicanism

Unite Against Republicanism is a Loyalist aligned organisation in Scotland best known for protesting against Irish Republican parades.
They are a group that was set up by a number of Loyalists and Protestants in protest against Republicanism in Britain. Their main aim is to combat IRA terrorists, sympathizers and supporters in a way that is peaceful and political. They have been seen to protest at numerous Irish Republican parades across the UK since forming in April 2010.
Background
Membership of Unite Against Republicanism is open to Loyalists, Christians and British citizens only.
The main aims of Unite Against Republicanism are:
* Raise awareness of the threat that Irish Republicanism poses to the United Kingdom.
* Support Unionist political organisations across the United Kingdom.
* Help support and maintain Unionism in Northern Ireland.
* Campaign against Irish Republican groups such as Cairde na hÉireann and the Scottish Republican Socialist Movement in Scotland.
* Keeping the Protestant religion as the main religious faith in Britain.
Unite Against Republicanism has recently linked up with the British Defiance Group and Ulster Defence League which are groups of similar beliefs to the English Defence League.
Demonstrations
Unite Against Republicanism has held many demonstrations across the United Kingdom even though they are a mainly based in Scotland. The most notable event on which they took part in was at Hamilton, South Lanarkshire on June 2010 when 25 Loyalists protested at an anti-Irish racism march which took place in the town. However the Loyalist protesters were flanked and held back by Police and the parade passed on peacefully.
This group are well known by the public and the media for protesting at Irish Republican parades in Scotland. On October 2010, South Lanarkshire council and Strathclyde Police banned an Irish Republican march which was set up by West Of Scotland Bands Alliance and was to take place in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire. Authorities made a public statement that the ban was to "ensure that public safety and public order is maintained." Unite Against Republicanism had planned a counter-demonstration.
