BlackDown

On January 18th, 2012 an intentional BlackDown of the Internet was initiated.
The english edition of , along with a long list of influential websites decided to "black down". Opposing SOPA and PIPA, two controversial Intellectual Property Laws in the Unized States, the BlackDown attempts to demonstrate what government instrumentalized control of the Internet can cause - a controlled shutdown of websites delivering content a current government may not be pleased with.
Rather than shutting down, a blacked down website still displays content. This is done to ensure users can differentiate a BlackDown from a server or network failure.
