Black Ruby

Black Ruby is an American drama film. The third film by Ave Fenix Pictures, it is the first feature film to be shot with the Iphone 7.
Premise
Jules and Louis are two jazz musicians who seek to create a successful song that will lead Jules to succeed in his career. Ruby, a young Hispanic African-American escort bursts into their lives and distracts the best friends from their objective.

Production
Production was completed in Chicago on September 2016. The film director credit was given to La Raza, based off the La Raza filmmaking method founded by Ave Fenix Pictures.
The film's soundtrack was developed with Liam Williams and his studio from Manchester while he was producing with Sony.
Release
The film premiered at the London Independent Film Festival and was the Official Selection at the Rome Independent Film Awards and the Los Angeles Film Forum Awards.
The film was picked up in 2018 by Hollywood executive Eric Doctorow who worked with Paramount, Fox, MGM and Miramax before launching his distribution company Random Media. Random Media is expected to release Black Ruby in early 2019 in partnership with The Orchard and Sony Pictures.
Reception
Zachary Laoutides was recipient of 9 nominations at the London Independent Film Festival. Mónica Esmeralda León and Zachary Laoutides won Best Picture at The Los Angeles Film Forum Awards, with Laoutides winning Best Actor, Best Writer, Best Soundtrack and the Independent Spirit Award. The Los Angeles Film Forum Awards commended Zachary Laoutides' performance calling him the best natural independent actor of 2018 and a master a subtlety.<ref name":1"/> Critics believed Laoutides’ performance out shined his co-star Joseph Mennella with the Clift and Brando comparisons only deserving to his character Louis Katz.<ref name"ChavezMedium"/>
