Biorecro is a Swedish cleantech company deploying the BECCS (Bio-Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage) technology through sales of negative emission carbon credits and carbon offsets. Founded in 2007, it is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Biorecro is one of the eleven finalists in the $25 million Virgin Earth Challenge founded by the British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson. Biorecro has collaborated with the on an overview of global BECCS projects, with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, (UNIDO) on a roadmap for deployment of carbon capture and storage in the industrial sectors of the developing world, and The Natural Step, who conducted a baseline assessment of the BECCS technology using their Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development. Biorecro published a report in 2010, stating that Sweden can be a net negative emitter of carbon dioxide in the year 2030. In December 2010, Biorecro was awarded the title Climate Solver 2010 by the World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF.
