Bindi Cheng

Bindi Cheng (born August 1, 1990 in Fuzhou, China) is a Canadian chess International Master.
Biography
He became interested in chess at the age of 7 but decided not to pursue it. By the time he turned 12 the interest to that game grew again when he accidentally stumbled on a group of chess players at the Hamilton Public Library. When he turned 16 he won the 2006 Canadian Junior Championship and participated at the 2006 World Junior Chess Championship. In 2007 he was awarded his first International Master norm and the FIDE Master title, which was followed in 2011 by his International Master title.
In 2010, he tied for 1st-2nd with Artem Samsonkin and two years later did the same against Nikolay Noritsyn at 2nd-3rd at the U of T's Reading Week Open. On October 17, 2012, he played a simultaneous exhibition at the Hart House, losing only one game. In 2013, at the annual World Open chess tournament, he tied with Leonid Gerzhoy, scoring 5½ out of 9 there. He scored 7 out of 9 at the Washington D.C. International, finishing second.
