Bincheng Mao is an American civil rights advocate. Civil rights activism Combatting racism In 2018, he founded the , a non-for-profit organization that combats institutional racism by implementing social equity initiatives and advocacy campaigns. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was "attacked for wearing a mask" in New York, prompting him to work to combat racism. In May, 2020, he joined Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Rep. Ted Lieu, CNN hosts Van Jones and Lisa Ling, renowned singer Wang Leehom, actor Tzi Ma, and Governor of the Motion Pictures Academy Janet Yang as a guest speaker at "Stand Against Racism in the Time of COVID" forum held by Asia Society. Promoting minorities' access to health care In August 2020, Mao was named a recipient of action funding from from the Clinton Foundation to assist minorities with language barriers in New York and Connecticut. He led a network of 3,000 volunteers to translate hospital information from English to seven other languages and also to provide free translation services for patients in need. Coordination of medical supplies donation In 2020, Mao coordinated donations of personal protective equipment to Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital, in partnership with Asia Society and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Legislative advocacy In January, 2020, Mao testified before the New York State Senate Annual Budget Forum to advocate for a diversity program to support the majority-minority student population of New York public schools. Recognitions Mao was inducted as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum on January 12, 2021.
