Benjamin Christopher Posey (b. Oct. 9, 1981) is a Birmingham, AL resident highly involved with local music education and performance activities. Mr. Posey has been a music instructor for beginner students as well as college undergraduate music majors. He currently teaches private trumpet lessons at many local schools and assists music directors by conducting trumpet sectionals, brass sectionals, and trumpet ensembles. He is a self-employed performing artist throughout the state of Alabama. Performance In addition to his active teaching schedule, Mr. Posey maintains a versatile performing career. Mr. Posey has performed as a featured soloist with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Wind Symphony, the Samford University Wind Ensemble, and the Samford University Orchestra. Mr. Posey has performed as a soloist in several recitals, jazz bands, wind ensembles, theater orchestras, symphony orchestras, churches, and weddings. He has performed with the All Souls Church Orchestra in the Royal Festive Hall in London, the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, the Alabama Youth Orchestra, the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra, and the Samford University Orchestra. Mr. Posey has also performed as the lead trumpet in the musicals Camelot, Meet Me in St. Louis, , Anything Goes, Il Taborro, Trouble in Tahiti, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Opening, and Talk Opera. Instruction Mr. Posey's college teaching experience has occurred from a variety of opportunities. He has been a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Florida State University, Adjunct Faculty at Gulf Coast Community College, and an Instructor of Record at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While in college, Mr. Posey had the privilege of serving as the 2003 Trumpet Section Leader in Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps. The following is a list of Alabama music programs Mr. Posey has assisted through various teaching methods (private lessons, trumpet sectionals, trumpet ensemble coaching, brass sectionals, marching basics, etc.). Chelsea High School, Chelsea Middle School, Columbiana Middle School, Corner High School, Hewitt-Trussville High School, Hewitt-Trussville Middle School, Homewood High School, Homewood Middle School, Hueytown High School, Liberty Park Middle School, Oak Mountain Middle School, Pleasant Grove High School, Pinson Valley High School, Pizitz Middle School, Shelby County High School, Vestavia Hills High School, Vincent High School. Mr. Posey served as the youth minister at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL from Oct. 2004 - Sept. 2006. Mr. Posey earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America in Pleasant Grove's Troop 120. Prior to this achievement, he served on Camp Sequoyah's staff for four summers and the Junior Leader Training Staff for two summers. Degrees Mr. Posey is completing his Doctorate in Trumpet Performance from Florida State University under the direction of Professor Bryan Goff and Dr. Christopher Moore (Aug. 2007-present). He holds a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he studied trumpet with Dr. Leonard Candelaria (Jan. 2005 - May 2007). His Bachelor in Music degree, also in Music Education, was received from Samford University under the trumpet instruction of Dr. Bradley Sargent (Aug. 2000 - Dec. 2004). Memberships Mr. Posey is a member of Golden Key National Honour Society, International Trumpet Guild, the College Music Symposium, The National Association for Music Educators, and the Alabama Music Educators Association. He is member of the Alumni Associations of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity, and Kappa Kappa Psi Band Service Fraternity, and Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps.
