Bell Intermediate School is a large intermediate school in the Garden Grove Unified School District in Garden Grove, California. In the 2007/2008 school year the school had 768 students from 7th and 8th grade enrolled. It is receives students from Garden Grove, Cypress and Stanton.
Bell's school colors are blue and gold and its mascot is the Road Runner.
Athletics
Bell has a running club and a dance team. Coaches include Mr. T and Mr. Stewart.
The Physical Education department is run by Mr. Stewart, Mrs. Adling, and Mrs. Patcha. The goal of the department is to guide the students in learning lifetime fitness skills, sports, games, sportsmanship and teamwork. Students run, test their fitness, and play a wide variety of sports. Rewards consist of stars which students earn for receiving an A in PE, being a winning team, or breaking a fitness record. Once a student receives ten stars the earn a ten-star shirt. Also, students who run the mile under 7 minutes earn a "6-minute mile shirt." Students who run under 6 minutes recieve a "5-minute mile shirt.
Music Department
The music program, which consists of a choir, band, and orchestra, is taught by Mrs. Van Voris. Bell has . All three groups have received high honors from the Music in the Parks program in San Diego. In 2007, the band and orchestra won the first place grand prize.
Classes
Bell's classes align with California State Board of Education Content Standards. The school utilizes AVID practices.
Student activities
The Associated Student Body is a student leadership class. The students in the class plan and coordinate many of the special activities for the student body.
In Journalism students work on the "Roadrunner Review" and school yearbook.
Students earning a B+ average in selected academic courses may apply for the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF). CJSF members are eligible for seal bearer honors at Commencement.
Each year the school creates a team for the Academic Pentathlon. In 2007, Bell Intermediate's team won third place overall in division 4.
