Behrooz Astaneh

Behrooz Astaneh (born 1964) is the founder of an academic Master of Science course of medical journalism in the Middle East and has presented more than 750 workshops.
Early life and career
Behrooz Astaneh was born in 1964 in Shiraz, Iran. He was graduated in medicine from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. He then continued his studies on medical journalism at the University of Westminster in London, UK. He founded the first academic master of science program in medical journalology in the Eastern Mediterranean region and also designed specific academic training courses and workshops for medical editors. He has also focused on disseminating the essentials of publication ethics among regional editors by presenting various workshops in this field and also performing two international congresses on publication ethics in Shiraz, Iran in 2011 and 2014.
He is the only Iranian Council member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). He is the vice president of Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME), and the vice president of the Iranian Society of Medical Editors.<ref name=COPE/>
His distinguishing feature is presenting more than 750 workshops at national and international levels on various aspects of medical editing, publishing and publication ethics. He is the only Iranian editor who served among the few editors of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE, Vancouver group), and has been selected as one of the directors of World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) since July 2020. He is now locating in Canada working on Health Research Methodology and Evidence-Based Medicine at McMaster University and also acting as one of the Associate Editors of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ).
