Baykus Music

Baykus Music is an independent record label focusing on folk, jazz and alternative genres in Turkey. Founded in 2005, Baykus takes its place among the important record labels in Turkey and also take the attention of international music professionals with the records released and music projects initiated. Baykus Music’s records are distributed all over the world in digital platforms besides physical distribution in Europe and Japan.

Baykus opens a recording Studio in 2013 where, besides recording music, diverse music events would also take place such as concerts and workshops.
History
First Baykus Music release was Balkanatolia by Kolektif at the end of the year 2005. In a short time Baykus attracted attention with its sincere approach to music. . In 2006, Gevende’s first record Ev is released, which take attention in abroad as well as in Turkey. In the same year, Kaba Saz by Kırıka is released, a band that is focused on traditional forms of Aegean region. This album is selected as “the best album” and “the second best album” of the year by some important music magazines in Turkey. Trio’s album Ä°le followed this record. Ä°le is a world jazz album based on the compositions of Cenk Erdogan who is a jazz guitarist combining Turkish traditional string instruments’ playing technique with jazz, and who is appreciated especially in the US which results invitations to Berklee College of Music and Queens College to make workshops on fretless guitar and to give concerts. In 2007, French jazz band Didier Labbe Quartet’s Bazaar Kumpanya has been co-produced which is released in France. In 2010, the Netherlands based jazz band Barana Quintet’s album Sarap - Wine is released which is devoted to Omer Khayyam’s poets on wine. Right after Sarap, Gevende’s second album Sen Balık Degilsin ki is released. Worldwide famous guitarist Eivend Aarset played a song in this album. In 2011, soundtrack of the movie Atlikarinca by Gevende’s singer and lead guitar player Ahmet K. Bilgic is released digitally. In the same year, Xenopolis, a project by Ceylan Ertem and Barana is released. Acclaimed musician Senem Diyici’s Dila Dila is also released in 2011. At the beginning of 2012, Cenk Erdogan’s second album Arc was first released in the USA, and then released in Turkey as Kavis. This album was recorded in the States with acclaimed bass player Kai Eckhart who also has a song in the album. Also in 2012, an experimental, free improvised album by Sumru Agiryuruyen and Anil Eraslan entitled Harsh Consonants is released. .And at the end of 2012, Kırıka’s second album Yillarin Ettigini is released. In 2013, Bilal Karaman’s second album Patika is released, who is a well-known guitar player played with famous musicians like Marcus Miller and Lars Danielsson.

Baykus Music releases rock albums under the brand name of the PI Music. Cilekes - Katil Dans, Kırkaltı - 46, Dalga - Denizim Olsun, Ceylan Ertem - Soluk, Yora - Gun Sozleri are the albums released by PI Music.

Baykus Music also brings different musicians together and broadcasts their improvised performances on the internet. These improvisations are entitled Baykus Sessions and available on the website and different video channels.
