| During World war II an acute shortage of paper was experienced in India. As Indian Post Offices required annually some billions of stamps for their postal requirements, as a measure of economy, the large pictorial stamp were immediately withdrawn and new stamps in the original small size were issued. Even this did not ease the paper situation and it was thought desirable to still reduce the size of the Indian stamps. |
