Balls Boys is a radio show broadcast every Sunday on Burst Radio. The show is transmitted from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm. The show began in October 2008, and is the brainchild of Chris Brookes, Paul McGwinn and James Morgan (Joe Hughes later joined the team after a stint as a stand-in) who write, present and produce the show. The show concerns football, and chiefly English football. The show has the stated aim of "seeking out the untapped, irreverent side of the game," rather than discussing more traditional fare such as tactics, transfers or even the week's results.<ref name="epigram" /> Show format The show contains a mix of talk, interviews and regular features. Interviews generally take the form of Chris Brookes or Joe Hughes adopting the persona of a famous football figure, who is interviewed by the other two presenters. The show has several running jokes including weekly vicious character attacks on Harry Redknapp, Frank Lampard and . Features Popular recurring features that appear on Balls Boys include: * Fat Frank's Take-Away of the Week — each week Morgan reads out an email from Chelsea and England midfielder 'Fat Frank' (a.k.a. Frank Lampard) in which he informs him of his favourite take-away that week. In February 2009 the feature was retired after Frank informed the Balls Boys he was quitting his unhealthy diet after his doctor warned him that "if you eat another burger you will die." However the feature later briefly returned when Lampard informed the Boys that he found the mere prospect of eating healthy food "vomit-inducing." * Paul Scholes' Recipe Book — each week the Boys read from a recipe book that was supposedly left by Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes in a taxi. Scholes' recipes typically take the form of a classic recipe given a twist. Generally this involves using the cheapest and unhealthiest ingredients possible, and absurd measures designed to save on the time it takes to cook the meal. * The Robin Friday "Raise A Glass" Award — infamous 'football bad boy' Robin Friday raises a glass (purported to be a pint of Sainsbury's Basics Vodka), from beyond the grave, to a different football bad boy each week. *James Morgan's Mythbusters — taking its cue from the popular television series MythBusters, each week James Morgan 'busts' a different footballing myth, offering up spurious alternative theories he has thought up. For example, Morgan once asserted that the term derby match was created when two teams both named Derby County played a match to decide which one got to retain the name. * Arsene Wenger's Credit Crunch Tips - the "infamously tight" Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger gives a different money-saving tip each week, to help listeners out in the tough economic climate of the Credit Crunch. * Who Do You Think You Are? - an adaptation of the popular British television series, Who Do You Think You Are?, in which the Boys delve into the genealogy of a different footballer each week. * Shola Ameobi's Blog - the Boys read out the latest entry from Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi's blog. * Vandalism of the Week - the Boys highlight particularly amusing examples of football related vandalism.
