History
Progressive metal band Bad Salad was formed in Brasília, Brazil, in May 2007 by brothers Felipe and Thiago Campos, and Caco Gonçalves. The initial line-up also included guitarist Marcelo Seabra, but for a short period of time. The group had no idea what would come out of the blend, and made no effort to pre-establish any specific genre to follow. The goal was to meet inside a rehearsal space, jam, and write original songs using everyone's ideas, hence the name "Bad Salad." Shortly after completion of their first song (Song No. 1: “Capeta”) guitarist Marcelo Seabra left the band for personal reasons. Caco, Felipe and Thiago continued on as a power trio, and for the following months of 2007 wrote many songs together during their weekend sessions. 2008 and 2009 were inactive years for Bad Salad, they had an album's worth of material, but the band was incomplete as a trio. They knew a keyboard player would have to join the team, as well as a vocalist later on. Unable to find the right guys to complete the line-up at the time, and having other important things to do stacking up, the band was put on hold indefinitely. In January 2010, Caco, Felipe and Thiago resumed Bad Salad activities. Two years down the line, more mature and trained, they were set on finally making an album, with or without a keyboardist. They scheduled daily writing sessions, and revised every single song from the 2007 drafts, making sure they were up to their new and ever-evolving standards. After unofficially talking about it for many months, their friend and keyboardist César Zolhof joined the band in March 2010, completing the band's instrumental line-up. In the period of April 20 to June 20, 2010 an online Vocal Tryout was held to search for the final missing member of the band. A section of “Song No. 8: Susto” (Later named "Crowded Sky"), one of the Bad Salad demos, was put on the band's YouTube channel in order to promote the tryout internationally. Dozens of entries were received and reviewed by the band and in September 2010 the band happily announced the new vocalist, Denis Oliveira. They released their first single Crowded Sky in 2010 followed by Nemesis in 2011. Later in 2011 keyboardist César Zolhof left the band because he was leaving keyboards to play drums. Though Zolhof is no longer a band member, he agreed to finish their debut album.
Several members of Bad Salad are associated with VRA! Split-screen covers. VRA! is a cover band noted on YouTube for their covers of Dream Theater songs, often collaborating with other musicians of the world.
Uncivilized
The band started producing their debut album Uncivilized in 2010 and finished recording it in 2012. It includes the singles "Crowded Sky" and "Nemesis," that were released in 2010 and 2011 respectively with synthesized drum tracks. They were later re-recorded with Caco Gonçalves for the album. The album was released on July 24, 2012.
Between July and August 2012, the band made a small tour to support the album, consisting of 4 concerts in 4 different Brazilian cities - São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiânia and Brasília. They invited South Korean keyboardist Junghwan Kim as a touring member. He has also worked with several of the band's members in VRA! Split-Screen Covers, a tribute band to Dream Theater.
