BackupChain, developed by FastNeuron Inc, is a backup software and FTP server for Microsoft Windows operating systems optimized to create backup copies of large files using in-file delta compression. The new technology in BackupChain saves storage space as well as bandwidth and thereby allows server operators to back up virtual machines, databases, and other large files to a remote location or simply to local storage areas. Unlike other available technologies, BackupChain’s delta compression algorithms are utilized to create incremental and differential file versions of virtual machines without scanning the previous file versions. BackupChain supports standard FTP and FTPS protocols and military-strength encryption, such as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256), and was specifically designed for Microsoft Server platforms, including the new Microsoft Hyper-V Server. AES has been announced as a standard of the US government (FIPS) and is included in all of BackupChain's algorithms. FastNeuron has studied the reliability of various storage media and concluded that optical media is amongst the most unreliable storage options. For that reason, BackupChain was developed and optimized to work with high-speed media, such as hard drives and high-speed Internet connections.
