Baba Ka Dhaba was a widespread public and media attention case spread by a Youtube video uploaded by a food-vlogger. Background In October 2020, a food-vlogger, Gaurav Wasan, uploaded a video of an old couple selling street food on the roadside in Delhi. He allegedly tried to help the couple through his social media accounts (i.e., Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram), so that people would come and eat there. And if not, they will donate some money. Spread A Twitter user shared a clip of the original video and it got more than 50K retweets. From there it became viral. Various celebrities started posting this story, and more and more public attention was gathered over a short period of time. , the Youtube video has more than 4.5 million views. Humanity aspect Several people allegedly came there to eat, and others simply donated money. According to some media reports, both the couple had cataracts and were cured by surgery, which was reportedly free-of-cost and done by a doctor named Dr. Sameer Sood. Legal dispute In November 2020, the story takes a turn when an FIR is registered by the shop's owner, Kanta Prasad, and his wife, Badami Devi, against the vlogger, Gaurav Wasan, under IPC section 420. However, the vlogger later gave his testimony that he gave him (Kanta Prasad) the money properly without any miscondution. He also claimed that he was being framed. Later, Kanta Prasad himself accepted that he framed the alleged YouTuber, and apologized to him. Suicide attempt After several alleged failed attempts to frame Gaurav, Kanta Prasad ended up attempting to take his own life, but he survived later in a hospital. It was later identified that he did so due to the wide media trail and huge public backlash. After dispute Kanta Prasad (the old shop's owner) opened his new restaurant and reportedely invited the same food-vlogger, Gaurav Wasan, to eat at his new restaurant. But due to a heavy loss, he had to close it up and returned to his old shop.
