AustNet

AustNet or austnet is an IRC network which aims to provide a friendly and secure alternative to other IRC networks such as DALnet and EFNet. Launched in September 1996 by Ryan Mills and Roger Yerramsetti, it was initially intended to provide an independent Australian IRC network. It now has servers located in Australia, the United States and Singapore.

About
AustNet features custom made network services. Nickname and channel registration are both available. Services utilise an 'OP naming convention, rather than the 'Serv or single character styles used by other networks. ChanOP exists on all registered channels by default, which allows the use of fantasy-style prefixed commands. NickOP recognises alternative and linked nicknames, meaning clients once authenticated can use their access from any nickname. Services utilise access-level controls for channels, rather than basic aop/sop lists, which assists in keeping channel in-fighting to a minimum.

The IRCd used is a customised version of InspIRCd, known as austhex8. The server software allows SSL connections, IPv6, and dynamic 'triggers' to allow increased connections for LAN parties and Internet cafés.
