Atike Sultan (daughter of Ibrahim)

Atike Sultan (1646- 21 November 1688) was an Ottoman princess daughter of Sultan Ibrahim and his consort Turhan Sultan. She was the sister of Sultan Mehmed IV and the paternal aunt of Sultans Mustafa II and Ahmed III.
Early Life
Atike Sultan was born in 1646 to Ibrahim and Turhan Hatice Sultan. She was named Atike by her father. Her aunt name was same as her. She was her favourite.
Ibrahim married her two year daughter to Damad Sarı Kenan Pasha (executed 1659). She was in the care of her aunt after his father’s death. In 1651, her mother Turhan became a Valide Sultan and she also had a good position with her but later on she was taken by Atike Sultan for her better education. She was taken with her aunt and her cousin Kaya Sultan to Manisa. After her husband’s death in 1659 she married Damad Mostarlı Ismail Pasha (died 1666).She had issue. Atike helped people by creating soup kitchens, libraries, schools, fountains, homes for poor people and free supply of water. She helped her mother in the political affairs she had had 2 sons and 4 daughters Turhan arranged a good education system for her grandchildren.
Death
After the death of her mother and deposition of his brother she became ill day by day and doctors said that she cannot be cured from this disease. Atike died on 21 November 1688 with the disease of tuberculosis and is buried alongside her father in Ibrahim the Ottoman Empire Turbe in Hagia Sophia mosque In Istanbul.
