Astrid Chevallier

Astrid Chevallier is a French graphic artist and musician.
Biography
Born in Normandie, France, affichiste (literally "poster designer") Astrid Chevallier has been studying fine art in Paris which lead her to explore various medium such as drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, typography, calligraphy, advertising, and graphic design.
She refers to the painter Egon Schiele as her first inspiration.
She started to work as a graphic designer and assistant photographer in advertising agencies, and got offered a teaching position in a design school for adults in Paris.
Next to teaching, Astrid was designing logos, brochures, annual reports and magazine layouts for corporate institutions. She also worked on interactive medias, such as CD-roms and experimental animations, explored early html coding, and co-signed and produced a self-training CD-rom about treatment of digital pictures. She was also painting and showing her work in galleries both in France and abroad, and most importantly, she started to design Posters for Cities and Theatre plays.
She developed a unique style by mixing painted elements with photographs and textures, and by using typography as a graphic element.
Soon, her poster design work brought her notoriety and national press.
In March 2004, the University of Caen set up a solo exhibition of more than 40 posters, produced a video interview of the artist along with a CD-Rom and a catalog, and invited Astrid Chevallier to speak about her work at a public lecture.
Astrid relocated to Los Angeles in 2002, and learned the ropes of designing for the film industry by freelancing in the many advertising agencies her agent would send her to.
Simultaneously, she started to develop her own signature through Purple Red, a small design studio with an edge. Bringing her European influences and her conceptual vision on the table, she has been creating movie posters for major Hollywood Studios, award-winning independent film productions, and many award-winning short films. Purple Red’s style stands out by bringing a conceptual or a design twist that emphasizes an emotional aspect of the subject in a design.
Music
