Career
Old Glory
Opened in 1969 by Morelli's parents, Helen and Frank, Old Glory began as a small shop in Old Saybrook, Connecticut selling clothes, jewelry, and accesories. Morelli then took charge of the business in 1980, expanding it from a retail store to a niche t-shirt boutique and distributor, before launching the Old Glory mail-order catalogue and Old Glory Boutique Distributing paper catalogue in 1993 and retail website OldGlory.com in 1995.
In December 2002, Old Glory's online and mail-order branches were purchased by Alloy Inc. for $9.6 million, allowing Morelli to focus on the company's retail base. Then, in early 2004, Morelli bought the catalogue and website back from Alloy for an undisclosed sum, after expanding the retail base with five more stores in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Georgia.
Other Ventures
It was also in this interim that Morelli founded Red Rocket Merchandising, a custom printing and wholesale apparel company that would also serve as an umbrella corporation for a variety of other ventures, including the iMerchandise turn-key fullfilment service, launched in 2004 and a managing partnership in the AllGreen Group, which publishes the environmental magazine AllGreen and AllGreen.com. Morelli's business affiliates inclued ArtistsDirect, High Times magazine, Clear Channel Communications, and Disney.
Morelli was also a owner of two minor-league hockey teams, the Richmond RiverDogs and the Adirondack Frostbite, the latter of which he sold his shares in 2005 to fellow co-owners and ESPN anchors Barry Melrose and Steve Levy.
Education
Morelli earned the designation of Certified Commercial Investment Manager in 1989, and in 1995 became a Certified Financial Planner through the Wharton School of Business and the University of Hartford.
Personal Life
Morelli lives in Old Saybrook, Connecticut with two daughters. His hobbies include hockey, boating, and he is a collector of classic Corvettes.
