Association of Water Technologies

The Association of Water Technologies (AWT) is a non-profit trade organization representing over 500 regional water treatment companies throughout the United States and internationally. These full-service companies specialize in the application of water treatments for industrial and commercial cooling and heating systems. Management Heidi J. Zimmerman, CAE is the Executive Director. She and the AWT staff provide professional support of the association’s Board of Directors. Certification The Certified Water Technologist (CWT) program is the professional credential in the industrial and commercial water treatment field. It provides professional recognition for individuals involved in water treatment and technology to indicate to the general public, co-workers, employers and others that an individual has achieved a high level of experience, knowledge and education in the industry. The CWT designation assures that water professionals possess a core body of knowledge and have extensive professional experience in all aspects of water treatment. Professional Development AWT provides training programs on all aspects of water treatment. Programs include technical training, podcasts, webinars, and the Annual Conference. Some educational programs qualify for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) toward the CWT recertification. The Student Education and Enrichment Development (SEED) Program was created to expose students with science and engineering majors to the water treatment industry. AWT Publications The Analyst is AWT’s quarterly magazine that represents the water treatment industry by presenting new technologies in the areas of cooling, boiler, and wastewater treatment. The AWT Gram is a monthly e-newsletter. The Technical Referent & Training Manual (TR&TM) was developed by the AWT technical committee, in conjunction with several consultant members, to assist AWT members in training their employees in the latest water treatment methods. This comprehensive aid provides proper procedures in basic cooling and boiler treatment, as well as a brief introduction to waste water treatment and air washers. Included are specific chapters dealing with boiler water treatment chemical guidelines, basic boiler calculations, phosphate programs, steam and condensate line treatment, field determination of deposits, biocides, open and closed loop systems and much moreis a desk reference that provides standardized definitions for more. The Science and Technology of Industrial Water Treatment is a reference manual that discusses the fundamental and practical aspects of industrial water treatment.
