Asif Farooqui is an Indian social worker and a member of the political party, who lives in Mumbai. Asif is also the General Secretary of Pali Village Residents' Civic Forum, an ALM devoted to the cause of civic issues in Mumbai. Asif started a massive cleanliness drive in Pali Village in 2004, which was hailed as a model ALM led grassroot civic drive. Seeing the success of this ALM based initiative, Asif has led and advised many local organizations on various ways of improving the quality of living through local initiatives. Notable among them is his grassroot work in the Mankhurd-Shivajinagar area in North-East part of Mumbai Asif belongs to a family that has historically been associated with India's freedom struggle and the Congress (I) Party. He volunteered alongside his family which played a key-role in the Parliamentary Elections campaign of Smt. Mohsina Kidwai in May 1978. This by-election from Azamgarh in UP was the first Congress (I) victory post Emergency. Asif's family owns and manages neighborhood bakeries supplying bread,broon, bread-rolls and rusk to the masses. He has worked closely with the various government agencies to keep bread prices low- for the poor and the vast middle class population of Mumbai.
