Ashley Kerekes is a babysitter from Westfield, Massachusetts who has become a minor cricket celebrity because of her name had a Twitter name "@theashes" before the 2010-11 Ashes series. She was suddenly innundated by cricket fans who mistook her name for the 'hash style' (#) which collates posts on a subject. After posting angrily she "was educated" about cricket and The Ashes. Consequently a campaign was started to get her to the Ashes in Australia and Qantas gave her and her boyfriend tickets in a storm of publicity from and to New York and to all the matches. Once in Australia there she was interviewed by Jonathan Agnew and other major news agencies, dined and toured a museum with Steve Waugh, met Julia Gillard the current Australian Prime Minister, John Howard a previous Prime Minister and Eric Bana the movie star. |
