Ashanti White

Ashanti White (b. 1982) is an American author.
White began writing poetry and the age of 14, at at 16, published and performed her first professional piece, "The Fight," which also earned her the Mary J. Hooker Poetry Award. She studied Political Science and African American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she continued writing poetry, short stories, and plays. Her works have appeared in The Commonline Project (formerly The Apocalyptic), Mandala Literary Journal, Callaloo, and Black Enterprise Magazine. White has been a featured guest on CNN Radio for "Funny Litlle Sport Called Golf" and performed with Oprah Living Legend Nikki Giovanni. She is also contributing editor for the Atlanta based publication, DV8 Magazine.
In 2008, Whit's first novel, Chasing Eden was released by UrbanEdge Publishing in Atlanta. Her second book, Razor Blades Between My Teeth, released in 2009, was praised by Library Journal. White frequently states that her ultimate goal is "continue writing, following in the footsteps of Toni Morrison, Flannery O’Connor, and Truman Capote to become the next great American writer."
