ASEAN 2030 FIFA World Cup bid

The ASEAN 2030 FIFA World Cup bid is a join bid by ASEAN countries to host 2030 FIFA World Cup. The decision that ASEAN should bid to host the World Cup in 2030 as a single entity agreed at Lombok meeting of ASEAN's foreign ministers.
ASEAN dream
The bid give real life of ASEAN motto: "One vision, one identity, one community". At 2015, ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will be established, so there are 15 years opportunity to practice and perfect ASEAN single market. The bid will be as a regional grouping with an underlying framework for member states to work as one, so it is more like a single-country with self-governing sub-states.
Why 2030?
At 2014 Brazil will host the World Cup, followed by Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022. Until now the 2026 host is wide open, but Asian countries cannot bid due to FIFA regulation do not allowed a continent to be a host secondly in a row. So, ASEAN choose 2030 as a host.
ASEAN will be the second to register an interest after Argentina-Uruguay will be possible to be a joint bid register.
Competitors
* Argentina-Uruguay, both countries want as 2030 FIFA World Cup host due to Latin America want to celebrate 100th year of World Cup initially at Uruguay.
* China, at 2030 (or before) will be number one in GDP and also has successed to host Olympiade.
Challenge
* FIFA rules, some of FIFA rules should be accomodatized. Until now "FIFA rules state that bids must be made by the countries' respective football associations and supported by their governments; Governments don't direct football associations to make bids".
* Distance, however ASEAN is vast regional countries there are no distance problem. The longest distance between two capitals is 2,700 kilometers (Jakarta, Indonesia to Manila, Philippines). In 1994 World Cup in the US, the longest distance is more than 4,300 kilometers apart.
Development
Malaysia is expected to take the lead in getting Asean to bid for the 2030 FIFA world cup due to idea about it was first proposed by Malaysia at Hanoi meeting before. Malaysia has the mandate to prepare a working paper for the bid together with their country's sport authorities and ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to make a concrete proposal to submit at the 18th ASEAN Summit 7-8 May 2011.
Popularity
Although ASEAN countries football is still developing, enthusiatic of the viewers to see the match directly or not are great. A record of 192 million viewers set when the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup happen. The two final leg between Indonesia and Malaysia has been watched by 15 million Indonesians or more than twice the number of the highest-rated FIFA World Cup 2010 match.
