:For the 1986 Jackie Chan film, see Armour of God The Armor of God is a term used to describe the protection a person receives from God and Jesus Christ through prayer in the Holy Spirit. It is described in the Book of Ephesians in the following verse:
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints....."
- Ephesians 6:10-18
The Armor of God is as follows:
*Belt of Truth - For when we understand the truth about chastity, then we will desire nothing more but to be pure and virtuous. *Breastplate of Righteousness - For it is only our righteousness in Christ that can prevent the most terrible blows of the adversary. *Feet of Readiness - For the gospel is a gospel of doing. Unless we are actively pursuing our Christian faith, then we are not going to go anywhere. *Shield of Faith - For it is with faith that we can thwart any question of trial given to us by Satan. We respond with the word of God, just as did Christ when He said to Satan, "It is written" (Luke 4:1-14). *Helmet of Salvation - For "salvation belongeth to the Lord" (Psa. 3:8) and it is only through Jesus Christ that we can receive our salvation (Matt. 1:21). With that knowledge, we can then see clearly and think properly while being protected from the oppressor. *Sword of the Spirit - For it is with the Spirit that we combat the devil and put to death the works of the flesh (Rom. 8:13). Paul says the Spirit is God's spoken word (rhema). He here defines the sword as the Spirit Himself, by a rule of Greek grammar (genitive of apposition). Jesus used the same construction when speaking of "the temple of his body" (John 2:21) - "temple and "body" refer to the same object. Just as the helmet of salvation is salvation, so the sword of the Spirit is the Spirit. And it is received "through" (dia) praying in the Spirit (Eph. 6:18).
