Arkham Karvers

Arkham Karvers are a reggae influenced indie band from Sheffield, England.
After forming in 2009 the band enjoyed great success playing many major venue mainly in Sheffield including the O2 Academy, The Plug,, Leeds Metropolitan University, Dublin Castle, Camden and The Boardwalk.
History
Formation: 2009-2010
It was in Sheffield, early 2009, that after realising at work they were both musicians, bedroom singer-songwriter Dave Gash a Sheffield Hallam University student from Wigan and Great Yarmouth carvery chef drummer Ashley Juleff began jamming together in the cellar of Dave's Ecclesall Road student houses.
After searching for a bassist, Sheffield boy Thom Davison joined and made up a 3-piece band that would go by the name Arkham Karvers, named after Arkham Asylum from the DC Comics Batman and Toby Carvery where the band first met.
After gigging for a few months the band were looking for a more fuller sound to their 'reggae influenced gutsy guitar music' vocalist Dave made a call to guitarist Greg Smith, a friend he’d made during a Spanish beach holiday 6 years previous, who was currently studying at the University of Sheffield.
The now 4 piece began making a name for themselves on the Sheffield music scene playing high profile venues and events such as the O2 Academy, The Plug,, Leeds Metropolitan University, Dublin Castle, Camden and The Boardwalk as well as touring Wigan, Stocksbridge and Buxton.
Influences
When asked in an interview with the Sheffield Star newspaper where do they draw influence from the band described the influence as been drawn from artist such as The Police, Bedouin Soundclash, Coldplay and Milburn.
Achievements and Radio Performances
On the 23rd of April 2010 Sheffield radio station Hallam FM announced Arkham Karvers as there 'band of the week' this was a 8 minute broadcast that featured Hallam FM DJ Ollie Hayes interviewing band member Greg Smith, the station then went on to play the song Alaska from the band debut EP. A recording of the interview can be found on the bands My Space page.
The band is also set for a live apperance on BBC Radio Sheffield scheduled sometime in 2010.
Tours and Appearances
On the 5th of December 2009 Arkham Karvers played the O2 Academy Sheffield main stage, notably the biggest stage in Sheffield, supporting Manchester indie band Lowline.
The band went on to support Alan Smyth produced band Dead Like Harry on there album launch on the 27th of February 2010.
On the 15th of May 2010 Arkham Karvers released there first EP at the famous Boardwalk club in Sheffield. The event was advertised on BBC Radio Sheffield unsigned night which included a preview of the EP track Alaska.
The band first played London on the 20th of May 2010 at Dublin Castle Camden a venue notable for the band Blur, the performance was watched by Cornershop singer Tjinder Singh famous for their top 40 single Brimful of Asha.
On the 11th of June 2010, Arkham Karvers supported Kings of Leon tribute band Kings ov Leon at the O2 Academy Sheffield
Other Appearances
Band member Dave Gash and Greg Smith have also done a number of acoustic performance including a charity gig in Buxton, a headline slot at Leeds Metropolitan University and 3 performances on Preston online music website The Basement Session.
