Arkansas–Rice football rivalry

The Arkansas-Rice football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between the Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas (UA) and the Owls of Rice University (RU).
History
The two southern universities have long been fixtures on each other's football schedules, played each other for most of each program's football history. The first meeting occurred on November 27, 1919 and resulted in a 40-7 RU victory. The teams met every year from 1930 to 1991 as conference opponents in the old Southwest Conference. Rice controlled the rivalry for most of it's history until Frank Broyles took UA to national prominence; the series shifted in favor of the Razorbacks in the 1970's. The Razorbacks continued to dominated Rice in the 1980's under head coaches Lou Holtz and Ken Hatfield. When UA joined the Southeastern Conference in 1992, the annual series between the Razorbacks and Owls ended, additionally Arkansas preferred to schedule Texas (who will join the SEC no later than 2025) and Texas A&M (who would join the SEC in 2012) as non-conference foes during this time. Concurrently, the Southwest Conference disbanded after the 1996 season and Rice was left out of the newly formed Big 12 Conference and instead joined Conference USA. The rivalry between the Razorbacks and Owls was renewed in 2021 after 30 years of dormancy, with Arkansas winning 38-17. Beyond 2021, there are currently no games scheduled between the schools.
