Troy–UAB football rivalry

The Troy-UAB football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between two public universities in the U.S. State of Alabama, Troy University Trojans and the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers (UAB). The two schools are only a 140 mile drive (2 hrs and 20 mins) apart with Troy University being located in Troy, Alabama and UAB located in Birmingham, Alabama. The two schools first faced each other on September 6, 1993 with Troy emerging victorious 37-3 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The two have met a total of 12 times between 1993 and 2014 with Troy leading the series 7-5. The last matchup between the two rivals was on August 30, 2014 at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama with UAB winning 48-10. The 2014 game was the last for the foreseeable future. After the 2014 season the UAB Blazers shutdown the football program. Though the UAB Blazers football program would later return two years later for the 2017 season the damage had already been done when it came to scheduling certain non-conference games. When UAB Blazers shut down Troy quickly scheduled a new non-conference opponent in their place and completed their non-conference schedule through 2021. No games between the two schools have been scheduled since the shutdown and revival of the UAB football program.
