Arevan:The Bitter Truth is an adventure Role Playing Games with an original storyline created by indie developer Over Cloud 9. Arevan was developed by Over Cloud 9 for 5 months according to the interview at Aldorlea Games. It was produced using the RPG Maker engine.
Plot
The premise of the game is that of mysterious murders taking place in various kingdoms prompting a covert investigation. The player takes on the role of Prince Maurean and sets off on a journey to discover the identity of the murderer and any ulterior motives he may have. The player must solve challenging puzzles, explore pyramids, battle mummies and rescue underwater mermaids as part of his quest.
Arevan’s appearance, feel, and gameplay are similar to RPGs like Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Eternal Eden (overworld pictured at left). It features mouse control, in-game help for new players, a unique skill pill system, the ability to skip difficult battles or puzzles, game altering choices and high quality 2D graphics. This game is created by a collaboration of two female RPG enthusiasts. Their extensive PC gaming experience and input from veteran RPG players helped them to make the game equally appealing to players of all ages and gaming experience. The focus of the game development has been on a deep storyline with doses of humor and interesting gameplay featuring original artwork of the main characters, beautiful sound tracks, and a front-view- turn-based battle interface.
Arevan was released on Big Fish Games on April 26, 2011.
Reception
As of 25 June 2011, 2 months after its launch, Arevan is listed in Big Fish Games's top 5 RPG list It was also released in game portals like Yahoo UK, I-Play, MSN, Pogo, Oberon, AT&T, GamersGate, Impulsedriven, Aldorlea Games and similar websites.
